Ashland’s Town Manager and Police Commissioner, Anthony Schiavi, announced today that there will be an Assumption of Command Ceremony for newly appointed Police Chief Craig W. Davis on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Ashland High School auditorium beginning promptly at 2PM. The ceremony is expected to last an hour and there will be a reception immediately following in the school’s cafeteria.

Mr. Schiavi said “an assumption of command is an important event that publically demonstrates to the officers and civilian staff of a police department that the authority of command has passed without interruption from one individual to another.”

“It also affords the members of the department, local officials, guests and members of the community the opportunity to recognize the achievements and service of the incoming Chief of Police, while welcoming him to the community.” Schiavi also said.

The event will also include a reaffirmation of the Oath of Office for many of the uniformed members of the department as well as a recommitment to the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics for the uniformed and civilian staff of the department who are able to attend. Chief Davis will also address the department and guests for the first time since assuming the position of Chief on October 7, 2013.

Mr. Schiavi said “this is a public event, and he hopes that many members of the Ashland Community will be able to attend the ceremony”
